MARUDHAMALAI CLEAN UP BY TNAU STUDENTS


The Maruthamalai temple and its adjoining areas were cleaned up on Sunday by the students of Agricultural Engineering College and Research Institute, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University. The event was organized around the theme “A new outlook for sustenance” under the National level technical symposium “ Ecofest ‘14” to be conducted in the month of august.
The event witnessed the participation of more than 300 students of B. Tech-Energy and Environmental Engineering and B. Tech-Food Process Engineering along with the professors and the Dean. Dr.C.Divaker Durairaj, Dean(Agricultural Engineering) i/c., personally guided and encouraged the energetic students.
The programme was organized to create awareness among the public about the proper disposal of waste and waste management with special emphasis on sustainability and conservation of natural resources.
The students showed great enthusiasm as they walked around the area to collect wastes and safely dispose them. The wastes were collected and stored in biodegradable bags, which the officials handed over to the municipality. The students requested the public not to pollute the environment by dumping non-biodegradable wastes carelessly, in future. 
Proper safety measures were ensured for the students. They were provided with gloves and mask. The students worked without disturbing the public and their work was greatly appreciated by the HR & CE department of Marudhamalai as well as the public.

Earn while you learn programme- Energy and environmental Engineers-Barefoot Technicians

The students of B.Tech-EEE actively involve in providing solutions to institutions seeking suggestions to switch over to renewable energy. We have visited and offered various suggestions regarding solar energy , biogas,etc to places like ashram, schools, colleges, villages and even tribal areas. We also provide suggestions for replacing conventional fuels with ecofriendly renewable energy technologies. Suggestions to reduce carbon emissions by replacing conventional electricity with solar power are provided. Detailed calculations with load estimation are done and measures to reduce energy consumption and improve energy efficiency are provided. Renewable energy gadgets maintenance is also done . We are glad to help people  willing to conserve energy.

Ecofest'13 - A Recap



Ecofest’13 with the theme ‘’Green brains for green age’’ aimed to develop skillful human resource to meet the global energy and environmental challenges. The events and topics were chalked out such that the students are made to think out of box to provide solutions for sustainable living. It was a two day extravaganza organized on 26th and 27th of July 2013 by students of B.Tech-Energy and Environmental Engineering. Ecofest over the years has stood the test of time and pose competitive challenge to the students participating in various events.
The event for the first time stepped out of the college campus. The fest conducted a series of ‘Go Green’ initiatives such as distributing solar lamps to rural school students, issuing paper and cloth bags to commercial establishments, planting tree saplings and creating awareness among the general public.
            The themes of the event were Solar energy technologies  Bioenergy-biomass power, Biogas technology and liquid biofuels , Hybrid energy system ,  Hydrogen and fuel cell technology , Green buildings , Solid and liquid waste management , Emerging pollutants and its control , Climate change and environmental impact assessment , Automation of waste handling processes and Software tools for energy sector or environmental management.
            The various events were paper presentation, poster presentation, quiz, model display and documentary film. The deserving participants were awarded with attractive cash prizes.            
The inaugural function was presided over by Shri.Chandrakant.B.Kamble I.A.S., Commissioner of Municipal Administration; Tmt.G.Latha,I.A.S., Commissioner,Coimbatore Corporation ; Er.P.K.Sundaramoorthy,Managing Director, Hunter Douglas India Pvt. Ltd.
There was a special workshop on “Solar energy applications in educational institutions”. It was organized by the Department of Bioenergy and students of B.Tech-Energy and Environmental Engineering.  This workshop was inaugurated by S.M.Velusamy, Coimbatore Corporation; Dr.K.ramasamy,Vice Chancellor,TNAU ; Mr.M.Karunakaran,I.A.S.,District Collector, Coimbatore and Tmt.G.Latha,I.A.S., Commissioner,Coimbatore Corporation. Many leading companies were present.
The valedictory function was presided over by Mr.Deepak Gupta,Director – Sales & Marketing (India),Sutron Corporation ; Mr.R.R.Ghorpade, Project Manager, Sutron Corporation.
The event witnessed participants and research scholars from all over the nation. The Green brains painting contest was a big platform for school children. The various initiatives created awareness among the masses. Thus Ecofest’13 was a grand success in contributing green brains for a sustainable greener age.
